CAT OF THE WEEK! Everybody loves Buckley – but only from afar. He is such a handsome boy with a short, gray & white coat and beautiful emerald eyes. He gets lots of attention from our visitors who are dazzled by his cute face. But Buckley is not a pushover. He will only let very special people actually touch him, so most prospective adopters turn their attention to those more social. Buckley came to us as a stray kitten about 10 months ago, so he is about a year old now. He has always been extremely skittish and semi-social until very recently. As he gets older he is getting braver and has even started letting total strangers pet him – a giant leap of faith for a scaredy-cat. More and more he is thinking he might actually like this attention. Buckley needs to be an indoor only cat in a calm, quiet, home. A companion cat or dog will be fine, but not young children. He will need to start out in a bathroom or some other small space where there is no bed, dresser, washer/dryer or any other furniture that he can hide in, under or behind. A spare bathroom would be perfect because he may need to stay in there for a few days, or longer. You will need to spend time with him several times a day – talking, playing, feeding treats, etc. He will quickly learn to trust you and look forward to your company. At that point it will be time to open the door and let him explore the house – always keeping his safe place available. With time and patience Buckley will become a most affectionate and wonderful pet. If you’re up for the challenge and would like an interview with Buckley, please come visit him some afternoon between 1 and 5 pm when our resident cat whisperer is available to introduce you. You may just be that lucky person he chooses to adopt.
