WASHINGTON WOMAN WALKS HER TALK RIGHT INTO OREGON Debbie Sporcich, and her two dog companions, stopped by our shelter last Tuesday on her multi-state trip promoting the walking of shelter dogs by volunteers. Check out her website at www.gowalkshelterdogs.org She was ready for a major life change and sold "everything" with the plan of becoming a Bikram yoga instructor. She missed that opportunity by two weeks, so instead ended up at an animal shelter in Pasco, Washington as a volunteer. At first it was hard, she admits, but she pushed past her discomfort of seeing dogs kenneled up, and realized that showing up every day to walk them was crucial to their well being. This lead her to create her website and journey to promote the idea of folks walking dogs at shelters. BrightSide is fortunate in that we have a dedicated group of volunteer dog walkers, but not all shelters are as lucky.
