How Will I Find the Right Pet for Me?

Successfully adopting a dog depends in large part upon matching the dog’s needs with your family’s needs and lifestyle. A BrightSide adoption coordinator will meet with you to discuss your wants and needs. Then you’ll be introduced individually in our meet-and-greet room to dogs that might be an appropriate match for you. You will be asked to fill out the pet adoption application form. If you are renting your home, the approval of your landlord is required.

Cats, rabbits and other small animals available for adoption are waiting to meet you at the shelter during our normal business hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Come by and see who strikes your fancy.

How Much Are the Adoption Fees?

  • Kittens through one year old: $110 each
  • Adult cats: $50 each
  • Adult dogs age 7 and older: $150
  • Puppies and adult dogs through age 6: $260, plus a spay or neuter deposit (refundable after proof of surgery) if too young to be spayed at the time of adoption.

What is Included in the Fee?

For cats, spay or neuter is included, as well as all vaccinations and a microchip.
For dogs, the same services are included.
For residents of Deschutes County, a dog license is required and costs $16 for a dog that has been spayed or neutered ($4 of that fee benefits BrightSide) and $30 for one that is not. The license is in addition to the BrightSide adoption fee. Other dog owners can buy licenses at the shelter, too.

How Do I Meet One of the Animals I am Interested in Adopting?

If you are interested in any of our cats, simply come down during business hours and we would be happy to introduce you. Our cats are in an open environment which allows them to be seen at anytime.

When it comes to meeting our dogs, we like to do things a bit differently than most. When you arrive we will pair you up with one of our Adoption Coordinators that can talk with you about the dog you are looking for and who might be the best fit for your home. They will then be happy bring dogs out to you in our meet and greet rooms so you can spend some quality time together. We will walk you through the whole process to make sure both you and the dog will be the perfect match, the first time.

What if the Match with the Pet that I Adopted is Not Working Out?

Don’t worry. If you are having trouble successfully incorporating your newly adopted pet into your family, we will first try to help you work through the issue. But any pet adopted from BrightSide can be returned to the shelter at any time for any reason.
