Beautiful Golden Boy and His Angel Home We hear sad adoption stories, we hear good adoption stories, but every once in a while we hear an amazing adoption story. Atticus came to us less than a year ago with one of the most profound cases of separation anxiety we had ever seen. He simply could not be left alone, even with medication. Desperate, we posted his story and photos and videos all over the Western states. Dave and Sandy from Canada gave us a call. We went through multiple interviews because of the high needs issues. We still remember asking both Dave and Sandy if they really understood how adopting Atticus would change their lives, and when they said "Yes", we asked, "Why would you want to do that?". And all we recall is them laughing in their response then….and here is their report now: "Hi Brightside: Lots of good news to report on Atticus. He now goes to a great doggy day care two days a week and returns exhausted. They pick up and return the dogs and have 10 acres of doggy play ground with a dog pool. He is exhausted. He is now well enough lead trained to be walked by Sandy in the regional park and is well enough behaved to be taken to the off leash at the dog park and also down to the beach to fetch sticks. He is a very quick learner and is so eager to please. But the best news is that we now can leave him for up to an hour in the house while we are gone and while he is a bit anxious when we return he is pretty good and calms down quickly. We are trying to leave him alone a few days a week as training. In a few months we will start reducing his medication, not too much change all at once. It is amazing how the baby steps are adding up to some real progress. He is very happy and seems very comfortable in his house and yard.
