We do accept community service hours at both our shelter and thrift store! For this program, you will need to start by filling out a community service application. Please read the following in its entirety to make sure your application is within our organizations policies:
Court Ordered Community Service Requirements:
- BrightSide will not accept those convicted of animal abuse/neglect, weapons charges, sex crimes, violent crimes, or theft.
- Please bring court documentation of charges and hours needing to be served to your first day of community service work.
- Bring court documentation of your offense
- Bring a current form of ID
- Must be 18 years or older
Court Ordered Community Service at BSAC:
- Must arrive at the shelter between 10am and 11am Tuesday-Thursday.
- We cannot accommodate community service hours Monday, Friday, or on weekends.
- Wear clothes that you do not mind getting dirty.
- Those completing Court Ordered Community Service hours will not have contact with the public and will not have contact with the animals in our shelter.
- Please wear comfortable, close toed shoes as you will need to stand and walk on concrete floors for extended periods of time.
- We cannot guarantee hours as it depends on our current needs. You will need to schedule your community service hours one week in advance of the day you plan to come to do community service work.
Duties at the Shelter you may perform include:
- Weeding, landscaping, and cleaning play yard areas
- Laundry
- Washing/ disinfecting animal crates
- Sweeping, mopping, and other duties as needed
Court Ordered Community Service at BrightSide Thrift Store:
- Hours available to complete court-ordered service are between 10 am and 4 pm Tuesday-Saturday.
- Wear clothes that you do not mind getting dirty as you may be cleaning or helping sort bottles and cans.
- Must be able to walk on a concrete floor and be on your feet for most of the day. Thrift store opportunities do involve walking, lifting, and other activities that may be considered strenuous.
- We cannot guarantee hours as it depends on our current needs.
Duties at the Thrift Store you may perform include:
- Sorting bottles and can donations
- Receiving donations
- Sorting and pricing received donations
- Any other tasks that management may need assistance with
