For love of Ben and Scout, the dog Ben adored In the summer of 2010 the Redmond Hotshots trained near our shelter. During noon, they would run with our dogs. 32 year old Ben fell in love with Scout, an Akita/terrier mix big sweet boy and planned the next weekend to adopt him. But Ben was killed in a car accident that week. Ben's girlfriend adopted Scout in 2010. Two weeks ago, after moving around and finally ending up in a situation where she could no longer keep Scout, she relinquished Scout back to Brightside. Ann, an adopter of a Brightside dog last year and a member of the 2010 Redmond Hotshots, emailed us declaring she recognized, knew, and loved Scout and wanted to know if Ben's family knew he was with us. We said not that we knew. Ann then got busy, including coming up that same day and taking Scout into foster at her home. Ann contacted Ben's family who met and decided Ben's sister, a lovely woman who has a fondness for power breed dogs, would adopt Scout to be a buddy to her recently adopted shelter dog. Attached are two photos: 1) Ann posing with Scout and her own Brightside adopted dog Abby (Azzy to us) and 2) Ben's sister and mom taking Scout on the final leg of the journey back to their family and home. This demonstration of cross-species love and commitment is outstanding and incredibly touching. Thanks to Ann and Ben's family, Ben's love for Scout lives on. Thank you Ann, Thank you Molly, Bless you Ben and Scout, and …. Go Redmond Hotshots!
