One of the most rewarding experiences a pet owner can have is caring for a senior pet. With good home and veterinary care and proper nutrition, even large dogs can live to a ripe old age. And cats can live even longer.
There are many reasons to consider a pet 7 years or older for your family:
- They are more sedentary. Providing enough exercise and stimulation for a young dog can be difficult for many families, especially if they are not inclined to be extremely active. An older pet that is content to lie at your feet or cuddle in your lap may be far less demanding than a young one.
- They are experienced. Older pets usually are already housebroken. If they were trained as youngsters, they already have the skills young pets still are learning.
- They still have a lot of love to give, and reward your kindness with devotion.
